Geelong residents have condemned Big Brother housemate Rory Ammon after he described areas of his hometown as a “ghetto”.
The regional Victorian community’s newspaper The Geelong Advertiser has run a string of stories prompted by the angry reaction of local residents.
One journalist has even called for locals to vote him out.
In an opening package on the show the bricklayer likened the Geelong suburb of Corio to a slum.
"I grew up in the slums of Geelong and I want something a bit better for my kids," said the 21-year-old.
But Rory’s mum Kerrie has defended her son saying he is an artistic person who stood up for others and who was adored by his younger brothers.
"It's not about bagging Corio. The reason he feels like that is because people from those areas get treated differently by people from other suburbs of Geelong. He has friends in Corio as do I," she said.
"He is very much a people person and he wants to travel in the future and pursue an art career in photography," she said.
"He is likely to get on with most people, the only kind of person he really clashes with are someone who hurts people or puts them down. He will stick up for anyone getting a rough go."
But Rory’s Mum’s view of Rory is quite different from the popular view of the bombastic bogan who has already offended other housemates in the Gold Coast fishbowl.
So far the dreadlocked himbo has upset one housemate, Dixie, after saying the only thing that attracted him to her were her large breasts and has attacked flamboyant housemate Travis for dressing like a girl.
“I can’t see a bloke wearing those glasses,” he said of Travis’s heart shaped eyewear on last night’s show.
Rory is already being linked with Paris Hilton wannabe and chest enhanced bottle blonde Brigette for a possible intimate liason.

Corey Worthington v Big Brother: The battle begins Sunday
It’s official, Melbourne teenager and party animal Corey Worthington is entering the Big Brother house this Sunday.
The bottle-blonde brat will be injected into the Gold Coast compound making him, at 17, the youngest ever housemate of all time.
He joins what is already an extreme group which includes a “little person”, a shrill voiced “flambo-sexual” and, until recently, a Pauline Hanson-adorising grandmother.
The 17-year-old shot to imfamy after throwing a wild party at his family’s Narre Warren home while his parents were holidaying in Queensland earlier this year.

Hansonite too good to lose
Dogmatic granny Terri was clearly too good a housemate to lose.
After being voted out of the show on the first night in a ‘snap eviction’ the Pauline Hanson worshipping retail worker will likely be re-injected into the house this Sunday.
In last night’s show Big Brother asked the 52-year-old if she would agree to go back into lockdown so she could be offered a further role in the Channel Ten juggernaut this coming Sunday. She agreed.
The offer brought to an end the third episode of Big Brother 2008 which saw the true characters of the housemates begin to take shape.
Though she has been banished from the house Terri’s impact is still being felt after, as a final prize by Big Brother, she chose Japanese-Australian Nobbi to be banished from the house to live in the backyard and sleep in a kombi.
While ostensibly a punishment the banishment ‘plotline’ will be a gift for the young commerce student and allow him to cut through with viewers early in the competition.

What Big Brother prize money?
With all the hype and expectation around the launch of this year’s Big Brother with its new hosts, new house, and new freaky housemates it seems most people have missed one small detail.
Big Brother hasn’t mentioned it, neither have the show’s hosts, there’s no reference to it on the show’s website or in any of the launch advertising.
The housemates have yakked about it, but what do they know?
It’s the prize money.
